Glen Rose Texas
Welcome to our Glen Rose, Texas page. Below you'll find information on accomodations, attractions, events and more. But first, allow us to give you a brief history of beautiful Glen Rose Tx. The city of Glen Rose is the county seat of Somervell County, Texas. The town is located at the junction of U.S. Highway 67 and State Highway 144, on the beautiful Paluxy River in the central part of Somervell county. The city was officially established in 1872 and became the county seat in 1875. By the late 1800s the city had a handful of mills, three churches, two newspapers, one school, one courthouse, and the Glen Rose Collegiate Institute.
Between 1890 and 1910, the population grew to about 1,000. During that time, the town became very popular and well known for the mineral springs in the area. Over the next seventy years, not much growth took place and by 1988, the population had only grown to about 2,100, the majority of which took place in the 1980s. Much of the population increase was due to construction of the nearby Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant, which brought in a lot of jobs to the local community. Glen Rose's other main industries during that time included farming, ranching, and tourism. Tourists who used to visit Glen Rose for its mineral springs were now comining in by the hoards to see the recently uncovered dinosaur tracks in Dinosaur Valley State Park.
